As Logan was heading back to Gail’s room, he was confronted
by Clayton.
“I told you to move out of that room! My friends will be
here shortly and there is no bedroom for them.”
“I’m sure there’s a hotel in town, Mr. McFarren. If you
need, I can give you a list.”
“How dare you?” Clayton balled his fists at his sides. “You
have no right to talk to me like that! I’ve had all I’m going to take from you.
Get out of this house right now! You’re fired!”
Although Logan’s heart leaped at those words, he knew
Clayton had no power over him. “You can’t fire me, Mr. McFarren. Only Gail
can.” And Bradley. Actually Bradley would be in charge of breaking his heart.
“Now please excuse me. I need to get to Gail.”
“No! I forbid you to see my grandmother! You are to leave
these premises immediately or I will call the police.”
No! Could he do that? Could he have Logan thrown off the
property?
“You wouldn’t do that. I am Gail’s nurse, personal
assistant, her companion, her friend. I’ve been with her for three solid
years…”
“Yeah, about that. Did you poison her or something? I have
no idea whether or not she is dying right now because you’re doing something to
her. So I’m no longer going to give you the chance. Now get the hell out of
this house, Logan.” He held up his cell phone. “Don’t tempt me. I will call the
police.”
“Me? Poison?” The words wouldn’t even make it from his brain
to his mouth how shocked he was to be accused of such an insane act. He
couldn’t even conceive of such a thing. Police or not, he needed to get to
Gail’s side. He pushed Clayton aside and ran.
When he arrived at Gail’s room, he slipped inside and closed
the door. She was peaceful, lying there so still, the monitors all still
beeping and sending out their flashes of light. He knew Clayton didn’t follow
him. Whether or not he would actually call the police or not was another story.
But Bradley was coming.
Although it would probably be another day.
Where had he called from? It must have been some remote
place. Was he safe? He wished the man had shared with him where he had gone
this time. But it was Bradley’s habit to tell Logan of his adventures after he got back home, never before he
left. He would usually come for a full week, after he’d returned from being out
of the country. Both Logan and Gail could sit for hours, listening to Bradley
recount his journeys. He would always bring back some trinket for each of them.
Sometimes he would have purchased it, but most times it was simply a rock or a
shell or some other thing he found that made him think of them.
Later, after Gail would go to bed, and he and Bradley would
be out on that wide veranda on the second floor with a brandy or a glass of
wine, sitting close so they could talk quietly, Bradley would tell Logan about
even more of his exploits. Early on, they were sometimes about some woman who
had followed him back to his hotel room. But the last year or so he never
talked about women. Lately, it was more about how Bradley missed Texas and how
he only thought of returning quickly to this house with the treasures he had
collected. He even talked about cutting back on his travels, regretting that
Gail was too fragile these days, and he hated being so far away.
Logan had no idea where he’d gone this time. But it didn’t
matter. He was on his way back and
would be here soon.
Sometime later, John slipped into the room to get Logan.
The police were at the door.

To Save His Prince excerpt
Holding cover for
To Save His Prince
Working Blurb:
Emory is a humble kitchen servant intent on working hard so
he can continue to earn his daily crust of bread. It is a thankless,
back-breaking job but it is exactly where Emory wants to be. In the magnificent
West Quay castle. Because that is where the incredibly handsome, extremely
talented Crown Prince Riffyn lived. The beautiful, kind and attentive man had
stolen Emory’s heart years before when he rescued him and his mother from a
band of thieves. Now Emory’s only wish is to be close, so he can simply admire and
serve the man. A prince who seems he just might feel something for Emory as
well.
But evil walks the halls of the castle, and Emory stumbles
on a plot to kill the prince. Of course, being a lowly servant, no one believes
him, including Riffyn. Luckily he haphazardly thwarted the plot, putting his
own life in jeopardy but unfortunately did not stop the threat to the prince.
He needs to convince Riffyn of the danger, but how?
Especially, now, after it is announced that it is time for the
prince to marry and produce an heir to the throne. Even as Emory’s heart breaks
because of this, three separate kingdoms are bringing their eligible princesses
to vie for the prince’s hand. And then, to top it off, Emory discovered some of
these princesses are using magic to enchant the prince to love them against his
will. Are these princesses part of some plan
to overthrow the kingdom? Or are they somehow connected to the evil plot to
kill the prince? Either way, Emory must find a way to save his prince.
